About Balloon Nevada

While shopping for a hot air balloon flight, you'll notice two things in particular that makes Balloon Nevada stand out above other balloon ride operators.

First of all, we don't fly groups. The maximum number of guests we will fly in our balloon is three, but usually it's just two. We're set up this way, and it's the way we like it.

Why don't we fly groups?

Balloon Nevada is not amusement park and we're not tour a bus operator.

  1. Ballooning has always been considered an "intimate" activity, often associated with romance and "getting away from it all." With the popularity of the larger 12 to 20 passenger carrying balloons which most balloon ride providers use (that's where the money is), that intimacy and personalization has all but disappeared. Balloon rides are now tour bus rides or carnival rides in the sky with restless kids, boarding passes and all. We don't think it needs to be that way. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for people to truly "escape reality" in the privacy of their own balloon and experience the sensation that ballooning has to offer without the interruptions of other people.
  2. Photographers often enjoy the perspective ballooning provides as well as the light. With us, you'll always have unobstructed views and a still platform for photography and videotaping.
  3. Even though many of our passengers have enjoyed balloon adventures in other parts of the world, we know that most of our guests will probably only experience ballooning once in their life time. If you're going to do something once in your life, do it right!
  4. Enjoyment. Flying a hot air balloon is a lot of fun for us balloon pilots, but flying a light, extremely maneuverable balloon like we fly is REALLY enjoyable! So you know what that means?! If the pilot is enjoying himself, you're going to have big fun!

Don't take this the wrong way. Riding in a large capacity balloon is safe, and depending on your fellow "basket mates", can be a lot of fun. There are many qualified and very professional balloon ride providers out there that will give your group a very good ballooning experience. However... if you'd like to experience the real beauty of ballooning from your own private basket, we hope you'll consider flying with Balloon Nevada.

Why take a bus when you can take a limo for the same price?

It boils down to one thing: Quality over quantity.

Your trusty pilotWhit Landvater / Owner & Pilot

I've shared sensational ballooning experiences with thousands of passengers throughout most of the United States as well as in Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, and Holland. I've been a commercial pilot for over 30 years, and according to my passengers, I'm getting the hang of it! :) Besides the incredible views I have in the balloon, my favorite part of ballooning is the reaction I get from my passengers, usually in the form of great big grins and the "man, that was cool" I hear so often. It makes me feel like I've really accomplished something special (like saving Earth from a giant meteor or something).

I'm also an ordained minister with the authority to perform legal marriages anywhere, most of which have taken place in our balloon here in Nevada.

When I'm not flying balloons or hauling millions of balloon ride dollars to the bank, I can be found in a secret underground sweatshop called Area Fiftyone with a 120 pound dog at my feet. On rare occasions I can be found watching some sort of motor sports, barbecuing out back, or something important like taking out the trash.

CarrieCarrie Landvater / Owner & Better Half

Carrie has been involved in ballooning since the mid 80's and enjoys everything about it except the hours. She's good once she's up though as you'll see from her smile and personality. Besides her flight crew duties, Carrie is the one responsible for reminding Whit to do all the things he's supposed to do outside of flying, like getting champagne and ice, pay bills, put gas in the truck, etc.

When she's not being the brains behind Balloon Nevada, she has a real job being a bean counter. She's a huge animal lover and all around fun person to be with. She's also really cute.

JoshJosh Landvater / Chief Crew Chief

Josh grew up in a ballooning family and has a wide range ballooning experience, probably more than anyone else in Nevada ranging from corporate programs, large passenger carrying operations and pleasure flights.

When he's not ballooning, he's probably snow boarding, wake boarding, boating, dirt biking or four wheeling somewhere.

Steve HollstromSteve Hollstrom / Crew Chief

Steve got wrapped up with us during his step-daughters' wedding, which just happened to take place in our balloon, and we've been buds ever since.

He's a big rodeo nut, enjoys fishing and getting outdoors when he's not chasing a balloon around the valley.

Matt / Crew Chief

Matt has been crewing for Balloon Nevada for a couple years now. We can't photograph him, publish his last name or mention much else about him due to national security reasons.
